Want to see something really fucking scary?

Yes, we know. We know the polar ice caps are melting. We know global warming is a reality and not some liberal conspiracy. We know if we don't do something soon we might be faced with calamity.

Now, what the fuck are we going to do about it? We need to get past the point of just trying to push the evidence, and actually try to solve the problem. It seems to me that if the problem is this serious, and could possibly wipe out huge chunks of the population, then it shouldn't be past us to tear down a few government buildings to get the problem solved.

I'm so sick of hearing about "Global Warming! Global Warming!" Where's the voice that cries out, "Revolution!"

Did you know that liberal democracy has its roots in the philosophy of John Locke? His grand idea was that society should be composed of the bourgeoisie -- that is, self-satisfied people who are only concerned with their own private lives and don't give two hoots about revolution.

Past the tipping point for revolution, evolution...maybe!

michael--

Yeah, we've evolved alright...into Locke's ideal. Solipsistic bourgeoisie consumerists preoccupied with being PC and minding our own business. Protect our rights, give us employment, give us SUV's, give us wide screen tv's, give us ipods -- and we become self-satisfied, sickly complacent fucks. At least those assholes in the middle east are living in the real world: waging jihad and watching heads roll -- that's reality, ladies and gentlemen. Preoccupation with shit like Anna Nicole and the latest on O.J. -- this is media-induced ANTI-REALITY.

I was actually thinking of evolving into something beyond human sickly complacent fucks. Something capable of carrying on in the absence of the human species. That may be the only hope of intelligence actually surviving here as conditions continue to worsen. when the shit really hits the fan we may long for Anna and OJ! OK....just kidding with that last part. But when jihad has run it's course and many heads have rolled, our extremist friends will climb into SUV's, proclaim their freedom on wide screen tvs, and upgrade their razors for iphones, and I am not kidding about this last part.

Yeah, Mac, that is "really fucking scary." I first thought, as I watched the animation, that this was a NASA _prediction_ of how small the artic ice cap would shrink to over the next 10 to 20 years.

Then I scrolled down to see it's actually just occurred over the last 24 months! And that the small cap shown in the last still frame is where we are NOW! Fuck, I had no idea the ice cap had shrunk so much. I wonder what it will look like 5 years from now?!?

As Tony2013 indicated, along with the "anons" above, I too am tired of hearing about global warming and whether it's man-made or not. That no longer matters as much as what we can possibly do about it.

I've read that if there were instantly not a single person on the planet, and not another additional molecule of greenhouse gases were emitted, that there are already enough polluting gases in our atmosphere from _past_ activity that global warming will continue for at least two to three hundred more years.

And yet, population continues to grow geometically if not exponentially, industrialization in primarily China and India is also rising rapidly, and they are primarily using energy sources which are quickly creating even more greenhouse gases than ever, just as the west does also.

The problem is accelerating, not slowing or being reduced. Now the new Prime Minister of Britain, Brown, and his government have been exposed as planning to withdraw or try to modify the EU plans to reduce such gasses by 20% by 2020 to something much lower, like a 9% reduction by 2020 or so, because they realize now they cannot reduce greenhouse gasses to the promised estimate by 2020 at the rate they are going without massive expenditures and major economic disruption. Jesus Christ!

No one is meeting the standards of reduction of the Kyoto treaty, either.

So, what does all this mean? That the problem is growing even more rapidly than the most dire models and predictions have previously estimated.

What are the consequences? We are totally fucked, and things are really beginning to break loose in terms of having any effective ability to cope with global warming within the time still available, which I thought might be 10 years at most.

What will happen? Not a correction. Not a revolution. Within 10 to 15 years, if not sooner, I predict complete anarchy, nuclear wars, widescale emmigration, water and food wars, and complete devastation worldwide.
Billions of humans will die. No one gets out or survives.

And what will occur when this becomes confirmed, and widely known and understood? Well, when people run out of food, they will go hunting for their neighbors and cannibalism will be wide-spread. Until there's no more protein or food to obtain, even via murder.

Penultimately? No more humans, anywhere. We blew it man, without even knowing it until far too late. Fuck! 100 million years of evolution down the drain. We were clever, but very unwise. Goddamn it! Planetary flip-out in our lifetimes...what a wonderfully horrific prospect.
