Awesome. Captures the sense of mystery of the novel perfectly. Didn't I hear something about David Fincher once being slated to direct a hollywood version of RwR? I don't know if I should count my blessings that it never panned out.
The only way "Rama" would work as a movie would be to remain faithful to the book and refrain from going off on tangents. I think the pervading mood should be one of quiet awe and anticipation; instead, Hollywood's liable to give us the obligatory explosions and heart-stopping thrills.
Small world. For the passed few weeks, on and off I have been trying to recall the *story* I read in the 4th grade, about a huge starship passing through the solar system, and of the Astronauts who discover it. I could not place the title or the author, and just when I was ready to give up I saw this post. I haven't read any A.C.Clarke in years but I am heading to the library as soon as it opens.
Wow!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
I read the book someday, oh boy!
Is Rama really a first contact novel?
ReplyDeleteTo me, it's a novel whose power comes from the enigma and absence of voice of that the "big dumb object".
I guess it's first contact without communication ...
