I've never read a Sedaris book, nor do I have any particular intention to seek one out, but I've listened to several readings. He's funny. Not as funny as a lot of "cultural" people think he is, but funny nonetheless. (I think he should try writing science fiction.)
You'd really like him because he's an everyman from a disfunctional family who is has had a hard time coming out of the closet, dealing with drug addiction and generally having a fucked up life, but able to write about it in an engaging and very funny manner.
Plus he was plagued with OCD as a child, is clearly uncomfortable with his success and his sister is Amy.
He doesn't need SF because his life is so weird to begin with.
A reading from a literary figure. How cultural!
ReplyDeleteIt's his voice that puts him over the top.
Sedaris Rocks!
