I'd like to think that it was some sort of protest suicide against humanity's evils, but I'm probably just anthropomorphizing.
Besides, if that were the case, I'm sure they'd have lit themselves on fire, and flung themselves onto docks, piers and pleasure craft, to the terrified screams of merchants and tourists.
Within recent memory, there have been a series of dolphin mass strandings here and there periodically--what I wonder is, historically, how often, when, where, etc., and going back as far as records of such strandings have occurred, what, if any, patterns are there--maybe this just happens once in a while--or could have something to do with an infection of their navigational and guidance sensory organs, although necropsies on the dolphins allegedly show no obvious anomalies.
I do like the Dalinian imagery of flaming, suicidal dolphin jihahists, though, foisting themselves recklessly onto feckless tourist's pleasure boats--might be a little difficult, though--water tends to put out most fires...what we need is legions of octopi working in concert with their dolphin brethren using napalm-laden water catapults...or something. Now that would get noticed!
No mystery at all, active sonar is torturing and killing marine mammals all over the world, a good analogy for this sort of "blindness" would be having icepicks jammed through your eyeballs whilst simultaneously being exposed to 190+db blasts of audio. You can bet, it hurts. Then a slow death ensues as navigation and fish finding is completely impaired. Why do they always say mystery stranding? starving dolphin found mysteriously deaf etc...

Maybe killing themselves was a better alternative than facing whatever is coming our way...

Who knows, maybe some disgruntled, CIA-trained, anti-terrorist Dolphins will work something out.
ReplyDeleteGrainy video of Osama Bin Dolphin filmed in a hidden sea cave airs on Fox News, the War on Terra escalates...
Hey this would make a good comic.
