  2. Ha! I know what you mean. However, I was a little rattled by Sagan's implied certainty that we'd eventually become a space-faring species . . . because it's all too possible it simply won't happen.

    I've no doubt that we're in a Ballardian flat spin, but Sagan's speech still gave me goose bumps. In fact, it was so rousing that it took me a minute to realize that he was espousing what some would call transhumanism. For a few minutes there, I was transported back to a simpler time, when transhumanism didn't seem like a desperate bail out attempt, and the sky wasn't the limit, but merely the starting point for a grand and noble project.
