All I remember of the 84 Games was that there were no Russians, so there was no Ying for the American's Yang. It became an immense American propoganda show, so I don't think I watched any of the games.
I surely remember watching this live on TV. It was really amazing —nothing like the Olimpic games to allow the two superpowers show off their wangs in front of a global audience :-P
The commentator at one point reads that the "ship" weighs over two tonnes and is powered by jet fuel. Is this accurate? I would have thought the whole thing to be really light and towed by a helicopter. In fact I just wrote a comment at Cabinet of Wonders where I mentioned that I remember (or think I remember) some flying saucers used as publicity stunts that were carried by helicopters, or so my parents explained it to me.
