35 years ago footage like that would have been declared as definitive, undeniable proof by all. Today is raises barely an eyebrow.
People are so used to over the top designs and effects from stuff like Independance Day and Transformers etc. that most people would probaly be dissapointed if real ET's actually did show up in their boring, unpainted metal discs that have no phasers, anti-matter topedoes, or blasters of any kind.
I have an eerie feeling that the YouTube user, grosdada6, is a locus for or possible creator of this video--
see the following:
http://www.youtube.com/user/grosdada6
I've mentioned him before in commentary on Mac's blog. Interestingly, a couple YouTube videos analyzing the "UFO Haiti" video were pulled by their users within hours of appearing on YouTube yesterday.
I especially liked the quick, subtle "out of focus" blip as the two Haiti "UFOs" fly off into the distance toward a group of white objects also CGI'ed into the vid. Quite creative!
Compare and contrast to this:

Next step in hoaxed ufo vids:
Shapeshifters!
Pfff! You can see the strings for cripes sake!
Actually that was very cool....
Do you think UFOs customize their saucers like in "Fast and the Furious"? That would be neat to see... "Yo Glaknark... check out my new Sparco Hyperdrive."
"Daaaayumn Korplab, that's dope!"
Beautiful work on those. I'm both impressed and depressed. These videos seem harmless enough but they sure as hell do some heavy damage to any genuine footage that exists out there. Now we're stuck looking back at pre-1990's footage for the "real deal" when the technology wasn't so refined.
I keep waiting for REALLY well done abduction videos though! Hmmm, maybe I should make one ;)

I just noticed that Whitley Strieber's site is baiting us with the possibility that this could be the Real Thing. As if.
Useful for purposes of comparison, I'd think. Personally, as a non-expert on the subject, I tend to think that at least 99% of ALL UFO videos are either faked or are videos of natural phenomena or experimental aircraft. (But that other 1% now....

>>I just noticed that Whitley Strieber's site is baiting us with the possibility that this could be the Real Thing. As if.>>
Whitley wants this issue out in the open so desperately that he's unfortunately willing to latch onto anything that pops up. The video is a fantastic exercise with some well considered detail but no way in hell it's real (and I'm the
"open" one here).
You don't film 30 seconds of something on this scale and then just cut tape. Nor do you Youtube it without comment. Now this one, along with a few other noted clips stinks of viral marketing.
Found a great little clip showing cloned trees in the footage: http://www.ufo-blog.com/2007drones/index3.htm
See these are the kinds of "tells" I need to put stuff like this to rest ;)
Denny
Not so long ago I would have been fooled, but as we all know, it's apparently simple to make these if you know what you're doing and have the editing time. These, compared to the awkward films of Billy Mieir, would have indeed fooled those who truly want to believe.
And it turns out that there are quite a few of these in any search, and more complex ones are sure to pop up in time. To the point where we might not believe our own eyes when the real deal occurs.
Denny--good find. It's obvious now, and provable, based on your find and the following, which is a duplicate, that the Haiti UFO vids were hoaxed:

"Below is additional footage with identical craft and scenery
(allegedly Dominican Republic) posted a few days before the
'Haiti' footage by different username plus extra craft of
different configuration:"

After a bit more research I even tracked down the software used for the hoax: http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/vue/vue_6_esprit/ . Apparently this was used in POTC as well.
You gotta love it when top of the line studio software is made available to the average Joe. I'm eager to try it out so that I can stay better informed on the complexities of future hoaxes like this ;)
Denny
Yep, someone used Vue 6 Esprit 3D software. As Denny pointed out, there are several cloned palm trees in the original "Haiti UFO" video on YouTube--I counted at least 6 duplicate palm trees in the original hoaxed video. Go to the e-onsoftware website he notes above, and lo and behold, there's a demo video with the very same palm trees, among other nice effects in the demo video.
Ha! Denny--how did you track this down to the specific software used? Some kind of meta data or tracking clues in the original vid or what?
And what is POTC?
Oh. POTC = Pirates of the Caribbean.
Pardon my cultural ignorance...8^}
ERRRR, ladies and gentleman !
Where on Earth is the proof that this footage is FAKE ? GIVE ME THE PROOF !!!!! (before commenting on it saying: nice fake, well done fake etc).
Mr./Ms. ERRRR--
Read the text in the above comments, then note duplicate palm trees references about videos, then review the sites re-noted below.
If it's still not clear and obvious to you, all I can say is ERRRrrrgh!
