Huge rise in British UFO sightings

Last year the MoD released details of UFO sightings for the first time, including an archive back to 1998. Previously, details of classified reports were kept secret for 30 years. Discs, formations, white or orange lights, triangular shaped craft and pipe-like objects were all spotted buzzing around the sky in 2007.

There were 135 ufo reports made to the MOD in 2007. In 2006, there were 97. How can this be considered a "huge rise"?

With the proliferation of "chinese lanterns" in the UK over the past few years, launched at various celebrations and parties, which account for a significant proportion of these alleged sightings and reports, I'd say not much of real importance at all has occurred in the UK, despite the hype of the Telegraph's rather misleading article.

These recent numbers are also about half the number of MOD reports from just a few years ago.

Of course, articles like these do sell newspapers, regardless of the truth of the matter.

Disinfotainment, anyone?
