There's a book meme going around; I became infected via Velcro City Tourist Board.

Here we go . . .

1. One book that changed your life?

"Neuromancer" -- cliche, but true.

2. One book you have read more than once?

"Majestic" by Whitley Strieber

3. One book you would want on a desert island?

Something weird and lavish -- maybe China Mieville's "Perdido Street Station."

4. One book that made you laugh?

"Breakfast of Champions" by Kurt Vonnegut

5. One book that made you cry?

"The Man Who Fell To Earth" by Walter Tevis

6. One book you wish had been written?

"The Cryptoterrestrials: Indigenous Humanoids and the Aliens Among Us." It would save me some work!

7. One book you wish had never had been written?

"State of Fear" by Michael Crichton. Or anything by Tim LaHaye.

8. One book you are currently reading?

"The Hollow Earth" by Rudy Rucker

9. One book you have been meaning to read?

"Newton's Wake" by Ken Macleod

10. Now tag five people.

1.) Sauceruney

2.) eWarrior

3.) Jason

4.) Paul Kimball

5.) John Shirley

i've also read Majestic more than once. in my opinion it's probably the best of Strieber's UFO-related books, after Communion. i'm not a believer in the Roswell incident as a crashed saucer, and i tend to take Strieber with a grain of salt (though i believe he's sincere), but as fiction it's an oddly stirring treatment of the Roswell/MJ-12 mythos. the story's imagery is so strange, archetypal and powerful. it truly puts shame to the Showtime tv movie interpretation of the legend.

Sauceruney--

You better! :-)

Ecks--

Ditto on "Majestic." It's a splendidly creepy book; I wish Strieber would reissue it via his website a la "The Communion Letters," although I can imagine acquiring the copyright might be a problem.

Truth, fiction, or something in between, "Majestic" is easily the best fiction to come out of the Roswell incident.
