So have I stopped blogging or not? Since I've continued to post since announcing indefinite "retirement," I can't help but feel a little guilty for sounding a premature alarm. It reeks of a self-indulgent publicity stunt, albeit not a very imaginative one.
So I'll leave it at this (for now): PB will likely cease to be the daily blog it's been for the last few years. But -- as I should have learned by now -- these things have a way of defying my own forecasts, however sincerely felt at the time.
So don't write me off quite yet; I still have things I want to share. But if I miss a few days now and then I can't say I didn't warn you.
Wait -- that sounded like a publicity stunt, didn't it?

Mac, Mac -- You've done this to us before, many times. I think you're just trying to get us to BEG you to keep on blogging....
I won't complain if you keep posting.
Meatspace vs. Blogosphere, the eternal battle.
Mac... I have been following you forever. If I was a gay android.. I would kiss you on the mouth...wait... out of the closet... I am an android...
You're too hard on yourself. And you think too much.
just get rid of facebook and other such distractions.

I realized that's exactly what is sounded like, hence the update.

I ditched Facebook late last year. Nice tool, but I didn't really have any use for it.
After running a 'webcomic' site for a year, I've noticed that whatever we say we'll do, we tend not to, and whatever we say we won't do, we end up doing. It's either a retarded cosmic law, or a dumbass human flaw.
Eh, don't worry too much, Mac. It's your blog--do what you want.
I even think it might be better if you didn't post so much--the last few weeks you added so much content, it was hard to keep up with. As Katie said some time back, you were "kickin' ass!"
But, perhaps a bit too much, and possibly the number of posts were diluting the essential PHB experience.
It might be better if you held back a little, and put up only the most pithy and intriguing posts, and give yourself a little of the essential meatspace time to get other things done that are, in the long run, probably more important.
I mean, jeez, you have this blog, two seti blogs, the Pickover thing, you're writing a book, and you work a regular job. Sounds like more than enough for one person.
As a long-time supporter, observer, and commenter, I think I can say that all PHB devotees would encourage you to do whatever you think you ought to do. I'd still like to see more personal commentary and creative content to accompany your link referrals, but that's just me, I'm guessing.
Don't worry--try to be happy!
Unfortunately, meatspace duties and other committments do dictate whatever extra time one can devote to a blog. Maybe devote two or three evenings a week to select posts, and work on your creative stuff on alternate evenings. And take time off, for a breather.
Just don't get burned out trying to fulfill some imaginary expectations or obligations--it's your life, and we all still luv 'ya (in a familial, brotherly way, of course), and want to encourage your creative instincts. 8^}
Can I be your co-blogger? I might be qualified...
