Knowing Paul Kimball's feverish poster-output prior to the 2006 New Frontier Symposium (which featured personalized designs for each of the seven speakers), I doubt this will be the last "Doing Time" promo. But I happen to like it.

It's an "OK" poster, but I think Paul can do better and should. The illustration is too simplistic and not relevant to the content of your story, IMHO.

As Mac has intimated, this is just an early draft. ;-)

My test for a poster is the "walking down the street" or "sitting in a coffeehouse" scenarios. The layout is simple but it gets your attention. The "Doing Time" does catch your eye, the white letters on black. If I only saw those words while walking down the street or if that was all I could read while sitting in a coffeehouse, it would intrigue me enough to look closer. Also, all the basic info is there (besides the times and dates, of course).

My quibble would be making the Saturns brighter, more contrast with the black background. This would also draw in someone. I like the diagonal array, how it divides the poster while indicating the passage of time. Also, depending upon your budget, maybe adding some color, each planet tinted by the rainbow spectrum (i.e., first planet reddish, second orange, etc.). That might be overkill but it would make the poster stand out more.

Anyway, I think the overall design works. My two American cents - now at par.

Good luck with your play, Mac.

Well, Paul, allrighty, then. 8^}

If this poster was just a draft, then the final poster should be quite interesting. I look forward to seeing it. I hope the play does well for both you and Mac, as I noted previously.

The play sounds like a really great piece of theater. I really wish I could be there. Good luck to both of you!
