Sex every day is prescription for improving sperm quality

Men who suffer fertility problems because of low sperm quality may be able to improve their chances of fatherhood by having sex every day, research has suggested.

In that case, I suppose it's good news I have zero interest in becoming a parent.

There's a much BETTER reason for having sex every day -- to wit, it's a total hoot!

Oh Mac, oh Mac. Becoming a parent is certainly a pickle for anyone with a touch of transcendence and a hatred of normalism BUT...

You're talking to the Alpha male of the PRA (Procreation Resistance Army) here. Believe me, I argued long and hard about the reasons bringing a child into this messed up world is a bad idea. Environmentally, economically, politically, existentially...I ran down the normal list that thinking men do. I wanted a life full of high randomness, no mundane, predictable, animalistic paths for me!

But Mac, I hate to be the one to say it; all those cliché’s your annoying friends with children drone on about are true. It's your little demon with your ideas in its head to take beyond your mortality and hopefully change the world for the better. And when that being smiles, laughs or reaches out for you something magical happens to make all the bad melt away. Whatever the animalistic protection mode or biological drive that makes this transformation possible, there is nothing more rewarding and nothing more challenging (and this coming from a very creatively selfish soul). An absolutely worth while journey for all its discomfort. DAMN YOU DARWIN! DAMN YOU BIOLOGY!

The only thing I would really say is that if there is even the remotest glint in your brain for that kind of thing, do it before you get any older! Oh my back, my poor, poor aching back.

So ... you're saying I should clone myself? ;-)

Pfft... kids are overrated. I'm perfectly happy without any ankle-biters around.

Katie--

Hear, hear! :-)

Kids are beautiful, fantastic, heart-melting. I know. A child's laugh and affection is one of the most incredibly loving experience a person can possibly have.

You, unfortunately, not having had the experience, do not know. Mores the pity for you.

I detest kids! There's not one thing I like about them.
Having sex six times a day is too much for me these days, but there's always masturbation...

Katie said...

I don't want to be pitied, anon...just because having a kid is good for you, doesn't mean it would be good for me.

I hate it when people look at me as being selfish, or callous, or whatever when I state the fact that I don't like kids, and don't want any.

I don't need a little spawn running around to feel like I've lived a better life, or that my life has any less meaning.

Good for you, anonymous person.

Hmmm this is a tough one. Believe me Mac & Katie, I was fully rooted in your camp of thought for a very long time. I understand the perspective completely. I detested the thought that a child could potentially threaten my own "meaning" or somehow fill a gap I didn't think needed filling. Or that I was living a life which was somehow incomplete. I resented those around me who I thought were looking down upon me for not having children.

The thing is, it's not about any of that bullshit at all and this is the great irony. The only real analogy that can be drawn is that it's like trying to explain a really good mushroom trip to someone who never intends to try it. It's simply not possible. Sure I can drone on about all the little nuances but at some point language breaks down and fails to truly express what it means.

Your life won't be less "complete" without children BUT you really are missing a fantastic journey. Kids will teach you more about yourself than anything else in your experience.

I see children as "infestations" They are no more than a parasite when in the womb and continue to be parasites until they're old enough to fend for themselves.
The sooner technology finds some way to enable "birth" at an adult stage, these parasites will continue to suck their prey (parents) dry.
They only seem "cute" or "heart melting" in order to fool the parents into caring for them.
If parents can't see this then the brainwashing created by nature has done its job.The planet is already overrun with humanity so "wake up" would be parents and stay childless.

Yeah, the 16 or more years wasted in time and money bringing up creatures that only take from society an don't give anything in return, is an outmoded system.
Guess its not the kids fault as such, but an error of "creation?"
Through genetic manupulation humans will probably end up changing things. They'll find some way of bypassing childhood. Sorta like cloning but on a much more advanced level.

So anonymous, what you're really saying is that you put no value on the human relationships you have? The interactions with the ones you love don't hold weight or meaning in your life?

Consider that the old cliche is true; you will have no greater love than for that of your child. Any thinking parent will tell you that. Now weigh that against the importance and meaning you place on those you love now. I know it's hard to imagine but that is an overriding factor in all of this. How much importance and meaning do you place upon love?

Having children isn't about the mechanisms of maintenance, it's about the experience they bring to your life. More importantly it is about what they tell you about yourself as a human (or even a posthuman).

Again though I must default to the "it's like trying to explain a DMT trip to someone who doesn't plan on taking it" explanation. Whenever I read reactionary statements about children and what they "mean" it is always from someone who hasn't taken that path. The meaning is always lost in the mechanics of what a child represents biologically rather than deeper questions about what they bring to your psychological reality.

Denny,

I can see where you're coming from, and having had maternal instincts at one time or another, I know the tug that comes with the desire to have a child. :o)

However, I'm now in a state of my own being where having a child simply wouldn't fit into my lifestyle. My husband and I are happy with our fur-babies, and dote on our nieces and nephews instead.

I love kids...just as long as they belong to someone else.

Katie,

It's funny, I hate kids except for the ones that belong to me ;)

We can let the trailer trash procreate but why is it that intelligent people offload that function to the stupidest amongst us? It's a losing battle if you ask me. The planet and the Universe is doomed to have the inbreeder's exploring the final frontiers ;)

Well said, Katie. Stick to your guns. The desire to have a child is caused by natures desire to populate. If you continue to think the way you do you will beat the "program" and then , maybe, just maybe others will see that having children isn't their choice but one controlled by out of date genetics. Choice is the key. Your choice to have or not have children. Others have that choice but ignore that fact and have kids because their hormones dictate it.
I'm not religious; but even the person known as "the saviour" blessed the "childless" a short while before he was crucified.

It's time to listen to Katie and people who are like-minded. It's a relief to know that some humans out there are becoming enlightened. It's taken 2000 years since we were warned but I suppose change does take time and truth longer still.

Simon Bears the Cross

26 When they led Him (Jesus) away, they seized a man, Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carry behind Jesus.
27 And following Him was a large crowd of the people, and of women who were mourning and lamenting Him. 28 But Jesus turning to them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For behold, the days are coming when they will say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed. 30 Then they will begin TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, FALL ON US, AND TO THE HILLS, COVER US. 31 For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?

So again, you guys/gals would prefer the dumbshits to populate and dictate the future of our species and planet? Spreading their ignorance and questionable genetic foundation? Aren't you missing the obvious breakdown in that logic?

I say BREED smart people! BREED! Drop the calculators, get off the internet porn, get busy with each other and spread like a really enlightened virus! And do it fast before more of these backwoods bible thumpers wash away anything that remains noble, creative and visionary about our species.

And in a funny twist of synchronicity, read Mac's very own list of "Top 50 Dystopian Movies": http://snarkerati.com/movie-news/the-top-50-dystopian-movies-of-all-time/

Pay special attention to the description for "Ideocracy" ;)

No bible bashers on here! Just a person, a non-religious person stating facts about the blight of child birth and its dangers.
The fact that people followed the guy after he was crucified and made a religion out of the situation doesn't mean Jesus was religious! Saying "I'm the Son of God, isn't a religious statement. God or the creator was hijacked by the brainwashers in society. Another truth that people choose to ignore. Whatever He (Jesus) was , or is, he was Spot-On in regards to child birth for the sake of it. Its destroying the planet, but no one will listen...

So all the smart people should stop breeding so that the idiots can handle things...oh wait a minute, that's a really bad idea.
