Thats pretty cool. I just mentioned at NTM yesterday that the St. Louis Bicycle Fun Club and Trailnet, have spray painted in pink, cycling routes all over town in the same glyph like manner. All one need do is look for the hot pink arrows to know which way to go...unfortunately, they don't tell you if you are going to end up across town like me stupidly following them blindly.
I think some of the designs are a bit more elaborate (and ambiguous). I'll try to get some better pictures.
This will not have effect as a matter of fact, that's what I suppose.
