"A stunning survey of the latest evidence for intelligent life on Mars. Mac Tonnies brings a thoughtful, balanced and highly accessible approach to one of the most fascinating enigmas of our time."
--Herbie Brennan, author of Martian Genesis and The Atlantis Enigma
"Tonnies drops all predetermined opinions about Mars, and asks us to do the same."
--Greg Bishop, author of Project Beta
"I highly recommend the book for anyone interested in the search for extra-terrestrial artifacts, and the political intrigues that invariably accompany it."

I really like Rudy's mind and imagination, but was kind of disappointed by this comment:
"although I read part of Communion, before throwing it aside in disgust at the humorless, earnest, self-pitying tone, and his complete lack of irony or surpise at the butt-probe."
I have no idea if Strieber has really experienced what he's claimed to, but if I had been rectally probed against my will by apparent aliens I think my response would have been probably pretty close to his.
That's the thing about alleged "real" alien encounter reports, I suppose. They quite often have an unsavory character that doesn't sit well with how we *wish* aliens would behave.
Though "Humorless, earnest, self-pitying" does describe Strieber at his worst pretty well, I'll give him that.
Strieber always strikes me as someone who wishes to be anally probed.

I'll toast to that.
However, I do agree with Rucker on the silliness of acting through our military as a means of contact.

Indeed. I see little or no humor in Strieber's writings, which is in and of itself fairly disturbing.
I don't care about anything but that AWESOME and weird painting! Giant laser-beam shooting robots, flying saucers - and a creepy clown riding a pig. It's undeniably proof of genius!
