Climate Change Seen Fanning Conflict and Terrorism

Global warming could exacerbate the world's rich-poor divide and help to radicalise populations and fan terrorism in the countries worst affected, security and climate experts said on Wednesday.

Well, duh.

I couldn't agree more, but I think it's a mistake to think in terms of today's wealthy nations being overrun by angry thirld-world climate refugees - mainly because I don't think the "wealthy nations" are going to BE wealthy under the reality of global warming. There is no nation on Earth that won't be affected, and I think the changes will actually be hardest on those who think that global warming is going to be happening "over there".

It's not going to be rich against poor - it'll be all against all.

Climate conflict is inevitable. Unfortunately, journalists have been conditioned to use "terrorism" in reference to warfare in general.

Sometimes I think the way that the "media" discusses serious topics reminds me of the way one might teach a preschool class. "Remember kids, when there's less food and water, people are going to be a-n-g-r-y, and there might be problems." Then, of course, the modern time's biggest new buzzword has to get thrown in...everything's terrorism to someone out there, I guess.
