Justifying an online fan club for actress Kris Lee McBride, film documentarian and stage director Paul Kimball makes the observation that "Mac Tonnies is still single (I just don't get that. Girls, he's a great catch.")

I'm not, of course. Actually, I'm pretty much orthogonal to everything women seem to go for. My experience is that some women find me interesting, but only for short periods of time. I'm a novelty, relatively easy to discard. The Introverted Aspiring Author thing has damned short market appeal.

It doesn't help that I'm not terribly interested in pursuing women. Sex drive is perhaps the ultimate con. While it can lead to wonderful things (or so I'm told), it's essentially a hormonal undertow, faceless and mechanistic. (Try explaining that to a potential mate; if the abject negation of "love" doesn't stem the requisite exchange of cute gifts and romantic tokens it's likely nothing will.)

I actually got into a lengthy conversation with a really cute jazz guitarist a few weeks ago. This sort of thing came up.

She seemed to enjoy and appreciate my arguments against the conventional notion of the the "soul," but ultimately couldn't bring herself to consider that we might me nothing more than meat machines.

And she didn't "get" why space colonization is imperative -- a big black "X" in my book. ;-)

As someone who loves anagrams I just had to point out that the word "orthogonal" divides into "Orthon" and "gal". I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions as to any underlying meanings... ;)

Typo warning....
That should have read - "Orthon" and "goal". Duh!

First, I don't need to justify the KLM Fan Club. ;-)

Second, you'd do well in Halifax. Just a gentle reminder...

Third, I agree - anyone who isn't down with the need for space exploration should be struck from a perspective mate cuddle-bunny list (yep - I just said "cuddle-bunny", because who doesn't love to cuddle?). I mean, honestly, how would she react when, twenty years hence, you two are married and you pop home with two tickets to New Caprica (er... New Tulsa) on Mars for your summer vacation? You've got to plan long term, my friend - long term!

Finally, try some Byron or Shelley. Sadly, most people these days think Byron and Shelley are hip-hop / rap stars, but if you run into a girl who "gets" early 19th century Romanticism, she's worth getting to know.

"Fate, Time, Occasion, Chance and Change? To these
All things are subject but eternal Love."

Sadly, for my own street cred, I actually believe that.

"Orthon" as in Adamski's Venusian buddy? Interesting.

Seriously. My "senior quote" in my yearbook was Shelley...
"The curse of this life is that what we have once known, we may never cease to know."

I like your attitude. Don't worry about it, someone will run into you in time. Just keep putting those books out there. Eliminate desire and especially, desperation, and the things will almost take care of themselves.

Also, your contemplated move to a more cosmopolitan area should make a huge difference. You're a mutant. Certain chicks dig that.
