Rooftop solar power just got easier.

I am often amazed that what is common in other places is rare here. In Israel, almost every house has a "dude shemish" which is a solar hot water heater. The rooftops in Jerusalem are covered with them.
It is simply the way you heat water. Why is this not the case here.

Good question. I think it's partly because we like everything to look "normal" -- and that means no unsightly installations on rooftops. As Americans, a lot of us are absolutely desperate to keep up appearances, from the Hummer in the driveway to the conspicuous use of cellphones.
