Of course, the conspiracy theory take on these "failed missions" is that at least some them were deliberately "failed" and secretly reactivated in order to study the (also secret) known artifacts of the ancient Martian civilization.

Hey, so long as they're sending a "planetary microscope" to Mars, I wonder if they'll take any good pictures of the anomalies?
If I were running the show, the anomalies woudl take a slightly higher priority over the beagle.
Perhaps needless to say, I agree. Specifically, let's get an extreme close-up of the "eye" on the west side of the Face.
