Woolly Mammoth Resurrection, "Jurassic Park" Planned
"The team of scientists, which is not associated with the exhibit, wants to do more than just put a carcass on display. They aim to revive the Ice Age plant-eaters, 10,000 years after they went extinct." (Via The Anomalist.)
Note the requisite nod to Michael Crichton. Maybe the Japanese can hire him to make a speech at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Sheesh.

Apparently, the plan is not actually to clone a mammoth, but merely to impregnate a female elephant with mammoth sperm. Sure, if you keep crossbreeding the offspring (assuming they're fertile), you'll end up with a critter that's 80% mammoth. But 80% is still not 100%. Frankly, I was disappointed.

I think they should try and clone a neanderthal.
