Petition to put Carl Sagan on a stamp

The Sagan Appreciation Society is petitioning for the US Postal Service to issue a postage stamp honoring astronomer and science writer Carl Sagan.

I'm all for it, just as long as they ditch the profoundly creepy design under consideration.

They should use the picture you've posted. That's a great photo of him. Happy, relaxed, and handsome.

They should use a scene from one of his 'Cosmos' Series episodes.

Yeah, agreed. That graphic is from an illustrator working for the skeptibunkeroids, as shown by the "lighting a candle in the darkness" illustration, which derives from one of his last books, the "demon-haunted world" or similar title.

Heh! Sagan was a known pothead (see K. Davidson's profile), so maybe the "candle" in the dark he should be illuminating with should be a fat joint. OK, not likely to happen under the USPO, I guess...

"Billions and billions of stars...hey, don't bogart that joint, my friend, pass it over to me." Oh, wow--I can see the delta of Venus now! Ann, scoot over a bit. hehehehehehehehe.......

I agree. I hate that creepy "Science as a candle in the dark" treatment. It makes him look like a gnomish zealot.
