Marijuana, the wonder drug

A new study in the journal Neurology is being hailed as unassailable proof that marijuana is a valuable medicine. It is a sad commentary on the state of modern medicine that we still need "proof" of something that medicine has known for 5,000 years.

[. . .]

If marijuana were a new discovery rather than a well-known substance carrying cultural and political baggage, it would be hailed as a wonder drug.

The real issue with "Mary Jane" is the fact that it grows quite easily and is nearly impossible to control on a corperate level, unlike tobacco. While tobacco can kill you, the gov't can control its production, becuase it needs to be harvested in a very special enviroment. Weed grows quite easily and naturaly in almost any enviroment, therefore making it impossible to contain and control revenew through taxes.

What I'd like to see is everyone plant 10 plants around the neighborhoods they live in. If enough people would just plant the seeds eveywhere they went, it would impossible to regulate, and illegality would be redundant because marijuana would be growing every where...

As a side note, weed grows faster than trees and would be a good replacement for the trees we are cutting down, while we are waiting for the trees planted to replenish oxygen to the atmosphere.

What really caught my eye in the article was the following:

As all marijuana research in the United States must be, the new study was conducted with government-supplied marijuana of notoriously poor quality. So it probably underestimated the potential benefit.

1) Typical Bush administration.

2) This is probably because the DEA keep all the good stuff they confiscate for themselves.

(I do so love being cynical.)

Alfred--

I can believe it. And I could use the relief!

I hate being a square.

I would just add that another reason pot will never be legal is because of what it does to the individual: (assuming it's good pot) makes you laugh, facilitates creativity, and doesn't cause you to take things so seriously, meaning, 'the man,' man. lol. Really though, it does make you pause and question authority. We can't have a bunch of happy, creative people running around who can laugh and see through the layers of crap.

It's so damn stupid that something that can make people feel better and deal with their illnesses, that is useful in so many ways, including the social aspect, is illegal. All that wasted "war on drugs" idiocy.

r. lee,
I'd love to see pot legal. However, a lot of people smoke the stuff. I don't see a lot of people running around laughing and questioning authority.
Its going to take more than a few tokes to create a happy society.
