Mouse brain simulated on computer

The scientists ran a "cortical simulator" that was as big and as complex as half of a mouse brain on the BlueGene L supercomputer.

In other smaller simulations the researchers say they have seen characteristics of thought patterns observed in real mouse brains.

Now the team is tuning the simulation to make it run faster and to make it more like a real mouse brain.

Reference "Seth Shostak and Kal Korff? Oh, well. I suppose they deserve each other." Posted here on April 9 (18 comments).

This is _totally_ off-topic, but since the post about Kal Korff appearing on the seti.org "Skeptical Sundays" radio show noted above has rolled off the end of the current list of blog posts, I just thought I'd let people know the following:

SETI's radio shows now have a new website: http://radio.seti.org

On this website, there is a write-up on their "A Special Skeptical Sunday: Road Trip to Roswell - Part II"

"In 1947, aliens intent on visiting our planet are said to have crashed into the New Mexico desert near Roswell. According to several witnesses, the U.S. military notonly recovered the saucer debris (together with some dead, extraterrestrial passengers), but secreted away the evidence. There are also claims that the crumpled alien technology was reverse-engineered, providing us with hi-tech products we otherwise wouldn\'t have. Could it be true? Most scientists have a one-word reaction to Roswell: \"Phooey!\" They point to a perfectly reasonable and historically supported non-extraterrestrial explanation for the debris recovered in New Mexico. In this special Skeptical Sunday report, Seth and Molly travel to Roswell to check out the fabled city which, even after sixty years, is still best known for this putative interstellar fender-bender."

"Guests:

* Julie Schuster - Director of the International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico
* Kal Korff - Lecturer, journalist, author and editor of criticalthinkers.org
* Michael Shermer - Founder of Skeptic Magazine, Executive Director of the Skeptic's Society, and the author of Why People Believe Weird Things"

I noticed that Kal Korff no longer is listed in Royce Meyers III's ufowatchdog.com "Hall of Shame"--maybe Korff's ridiculous legal threats got to him. Which is a shame, as Royce had nothing to fear from Korff. Speaking of Korff, here's the latest from his website:

"BREAKING NEWS - New “Mother of All Roswell UFO Documentaries” Coming July 4, 2007!
May 1st, 2007 by Kal Korff

"A new documentary on the famous Roswell “UFO” crash of 1947 which promises not only new, conclusive evidence but claims to be “the Mother of All Roswell UFO Documentaries” and will also expose the numerous false and misleading claims of Roswell researchers David Rudiak, Kevin Randle, Donald Schmitt and others will debut July 4, 2007.

"More exclusive details about this new DVD-based documentary soon as they become available…"

Ha! I suppose, between Korff's work as a super secret spy for the Israeli S3/SAPSTOE, his 500 book deal, and his 27-part TV show, he must have had some idle time to spend on Roswell. Must be a pretty busy guy! Either that, or he's lying. Hmmmm, wonder which?
