I saw an ear specialist today. The condition is untreatable and remains essentially mysterious. I'm told many people suffer from tinnitus of varying degrees, and those unlucky enough to develop the high-grade version I have sometimes find themselves unable to lead normal lives (which I suppose is of no particular concern to me). Sometimes they even kill themselves.

There's always a chance this will go away as abruptly and inexplicably as it came on. I really hope it does, because it's breaking me.

Hang in there, chum. Just remember that Bill Shatner has suffered from it for decades... as does my best friend, as do I (although not nearly as bad as you seem to be getting hit right now).

I know a lot of people with tinnitus. Have you ever had and MRI of the brain? Many of the people I know ended up being diagnosed with Arnold Chiari Malformation I.
Other symptoms could be trouble swallowing, numbness and tingling, severe headaches, vision issues.

Dunno. It's just that it's underdiagnosed. It's thought to be rare, but with so many MRIs being done, they're finding it's not as rare as they think.

Good luck. I know it sucks.
