Today I had a root canal. I was surprised at how quickly they did it. One second I'm lying on a dental chair perusing "Architectural Digest" and the next someone -- evidently a trained dentist -- is inserting a fat needle into my palate and stuffing my mouth with latex.
The numbness is wearing off as I write; time for some Motrin and an antibiotic.

The shot in the roof of my mouth was by far the most painful part of the procedure. It was like something sadistic aliens would inflict on a hapless abductee.
I only needed to take one 800 mg tablet of generic Motrin (after weeks of popping lesser doses) and the pain is gone. But it looks like I'll be on antibiotics for a while.

I agree with Dawn. The anticipation of the root canal is far worse than the whole procedure itself. After my dentist in Edgewater performed the root canal procedure, there was little discomfort but I generally felt okay. A few days had gone by and I still wasn't feeling any pain like the others did. I guess I'm pretty lucky my experience wasn't that bad at all. With the pain-free procedure, I should really be thanking my dentist. Edgewater, NJ residents are truly lucky to have him as their dependable dentist.
