Scientists take step to making synthetic life

Scientists have taken a first step toward making synthetic life by transferring genetic material from one bacterium into another, transforming the second microbe into a copy of the first.

They intend to use their technique to custom-design bacteria to perform functions such as producing artificial fuel or cleaning up toxic waste, the researchers report in Friday's issue of the journal Science.

Scientists are ALWAYS "takong a first step" towards creating synthetic life. This is an off-the-shelf mass media narrative. But somehow, they never quite manage to take that second and succeeding steps and actually CREATE synthetic life. That is because they do not -- because coming from a perspective of scietism or materialistic dogmatism they cannot -- realize what life actually IS.

I am willing to be anyone that true "synthetic life" is not going to be created within the next 20 years at any rate, for just this reason.
