Neanderthal love: Scientists split over how much mating occurred
"Is it bestiality? The debate over modern-human/Neanderthal interbreeding is part quest to chart the origins of the human race, part academic feud over old bones, and part family soap opera: Did some of our ancestors go to bed with creatures commonly thought of as less than human?" (Via The Anomalist.)
This reminds me of a certain Robert J. Sawyer novel I've been wanting to read.

Just what I've always wanted -- a hot Neanderthal chic.
I dated a really hairy guy once, does that count? (seemed like it to me)
well, kinda... he was Greek.
Anyway...my theory is that we began as one sub-species among several; over time the other sub-species either died out or were absorbed by us. Today's ethnic variations are only smaller and more subtle subdivisions of a race which was at one time more diversified in larger subcategories (which included "coneheads", Neanderthals, etc.). The gradual disappearance of such diversity (eventually leaving only us) might indicate that our race as a whole is approaching the end of its term...
Hate to break the bad news but this old bag has learned through her years of living that men aren't THAT choosy. Some will mate with ANYTHING, sometimes not even same species.
