I REALLY hope you voted today Mac. Playing "they're all the same" game is ultimately pandering to an extremist rightwing meme designed to disenfranchise voters.

You only need look at the way each party handles their term for proof of that (in all the ways that count). There are some pretty major differences.

I agree with Denny--you can't legitimately bitch if you don't vote. Unless you're a participant in the process of expressing your choice, the default presumption is that who ends up being President simply doesn't matter--and after the last eight years of the Bush league of extraordinarily corrupt non-gentleman, I can only suggest voting for the alternative certainly does matter in a representative democracy, at least to some degree better than not participating in same, imho.

But, the choice is yours to make, or not, of course.

I agree with Denny--you can't legitimately bitch if you don't vote.

Wow, it's so fucking wonderful that people are suddenly *so* concerned about me.

This is why I detest poliics. It appears to make people take an abrupt, inordinate interest in what I do with my time (so long as their pet cause is being served in the process).

Uh, Mac, I don't think that statement is either accurate, or fair. Comments made here I would suggest are more reflective of just expressing an opinion of concern, or advocacy, based on an apparently differing viewpoint about the inherent value of voting. It's really not about you, per se.

I see it as more of a debate, or dialogue, about a matter of interest upon which all are entitled to express their view as to whether to vote or not, and why or why not, not whether either choice is wrong or right, or reflects on the person who makes either or any particular choice.

As I suggested above, it's your choice, either way. We won't think any less of you which ever choice, or non-choice, you make. It's more about the value of making a choice, or decision, in general, to engage in the only governing process we have for expressing our preferences for who heads or best helps govern our political system, imho.

This is just my (and others) opinion--you are perfectly free to disagree voting has much purpose or significance, but what alternative would you suggest is more appropriate, given the system of governance we have? I can see, personally, that non-participation is also a rational and valid choice for any individual. In fact, it indicates a belief that our bipolar, divisive political process and Demo vs. Republican split itself is flawed, and I would tend to agree with that.

But, as someone once said, democracy is the worst political system there is--except for all the others. Until and unless a real, more practical system for the governed to help express and collectively choose better how and who governs us is available, it's the best we've been able to come up with, and all that we've got for engaging in that somewhat important process.

It's all about freedom, tolerance, and choice, which includes not choosing to participate in this particular process, not you personally. Hope that clears things up to some degree.
